Your first 90 days at Select

By Marie ScultoreLast updated: 6 min read

Select is the tier where AWS starts to see you: a badge, a listing and your first funding. AWS doesn't publish a 90-day plan. This is the order I use, because each step depends on the one before it.

Days 1 to 30: set up Partner Central

Move to Partner Central in the AWS console first, if you haven't. The migration takes 2 to 6 hours, and every user is locked out while it runs.2 The Opportunity Quality Score and the new Partner Central agents only work once you're on the console version.3

Then create your solution and bring it to Limited or Public status. You can't create an ACE opportunity without one attached.4

Your tier badge and Partner Solutions Finder listing come with Select.1 Write the listing for a customer, not for AWS: who you help, with what, and the result.

Days 31 to 60: start the pipeline

Accept or reject every AWS referral within 5 business days, or it drops out of your view. And don't submit deals that are already Launched or Closed Won.5

Every deal you share now gets a score. Write the customer's problem, not your product. The Opportunity Quality Score guide shows what AWS reads.

Marketing Central campaigns open at Select.1 To use them, someone on your team needs the Marketing Staff role from your Alliance Lead.6 Pick one campaign that matches your solution and run it end to end.

Days 61 to 90: funding and the next tier

At Select, your funding is POA for proofs of concept and migrations, and promotional credits to build your solution. MDF waits until Advanced.1 Set up Amazon Payee Central now; AWS needs it before any POA request.7

Then plan the climb to Advanced:1

  • People. 8 accredited, 4 with a Foundational certification and 6 with a Technical one, at least 3 at Professional or Specialty level. Link every certification to your company in AWS Skill Builder.8
  • Deals. 20 launched opportunities worth at least USD 10,000 in monthly recurring revenue in total.
  • A Partner Business Plan agreed with AWS.

A note for Canadian partners

AWS Marketplace lets you list professional services and sell them by private offer. But Canada is not on AWS's list of jurisdictions eligible to sell paid listings.9

Keep Select

Tier requirements count on a rolling 12 months, and the APN fee is USD 2,500 a year.1 AWS doesn't publish the grace period if you drop below a minimum. Check your Partner Scorecard each quarter, so a lost certification or a slow quarter doesn't surprise you.

Start with a Diagnostic.

In two weeks, I look at you the way AWS does, records included. Then I tell you which programs fit, who to talk to at AWS, and what to do first.
