Who gets MDF
For services partners, MDF starts at Advanced tier.2 AWS Specializations and other partner programs add to it. ISV Accelerate partners enrolled after January 1, 2026 can get it too, once they implement Partner Revenue Measurement and meet the co-sell requirements.3
MDF works like a wallet. AWS allocates it; you don't just ask for it. If the Create fund request button is greyed out, the reason is your Partner Path status or an account with no MDF wallet.4
Before anything else, set up an Amazon Payee Central account. AWS won't take an MDF request without one.1
What AWS pays for
For cash MDF, AWS co-funds up to 50 percent of completed eligible activities.5 MDF credits cover AWS usage during the campaign instead.
The activities AWS names: email, telemarketing, display ads, search, paid social, and customer-facing webinars and events.5 The full rules are in the MDF guide inside Partner Central. Read that before you plan the year.
How the request works
MDF moved into Partner Central in the AWS console. Your users need the right IAM permissions to see it. Then:6
- Open Funding Benefits, then the Funding dashboard.
- Choose Create fund request and pick the MDF program.
- Business approval. An AWS approver checks the activity.
- Finance approval. AWS issues a purchase order for cash, or codes for credits.
- Pre-approval. Now you can run the activity.
- Claim. You send proof, then your invoice in Payee Central.
Give yourself lead time. AWS's rule for resubmitted requests is a start date at least 14 days after you submit.7 I plan every request that way.
Since March 16, 2026, a Partner Central agent can draft the request for you from the opportunity record.8 Check what it writes. It only knows what the record says.
What makes it easy to approve
AWS funds pipeline. Write the request so the approver can see it.
- One audience. Name who the activity reaches and why they buy on AWS.
- One number. The pipeline or the launched opportunities you expect, and how you will count them.
- A link to ACE. Opportunities from the activity go into ACE, so AWS sees the result without asking.
A request that reads like an event budget gets questions. A request that reads like a pipeline plan gets approved.
Claim on time
The claim is where money gets lost. File it within 30 days after the activity ends, and no later than December 15 of the same year.9 A request with no claim expires 30 days after its end date.6
You can extend an approved request once, by up to 90 days, before it expires. The new end date can't fall between December 16 and January 1, and MDF never crosses into the next year.9
Two practical points. Spreadsheets with formulas can get quarantined, so send proof as PDF.6 And if AWS rejects a request or a claim, the reason is in the email and in Approval History. Fix it and resubmit.7
